One of the best parts of our community at Versa is getting to know our members. We enjoy being able to learn more about what everyone does not just on a professional level, but on a personal one as well. We recently had the chance to learn more about the team at CMax Advisors and we hope you enjoy getting to learn more about them as well – Take a look!
Let’s start with the basics; who are CMax Advisors and what do you do?
We help organizations build strong teams. This includes helping them define their vision and strategy, developing and coaching leaders, and recruiting great people. We are based in Columbus and provide support to businesses of all sizes throughout Ohio.
Can you tell us a little about the history of your company? When you were founded, what sparked it, etc.?
We started the business in 2005. It started as recruiting college graduates for public accounting firms. Over the years, we have expanded and tailored our services to help leaders improve their performance through their team. Almost everyone has been on a great team, but unfortunately these experiences aren’t as frequent as they should be. Our passion is to help teams be at their best so team members trust one another, understand the organization’s purpose and maximize their individual development.
What do you think are the most important things for any company to be successful?
It all starts with a clear vision and defining the philosophy of the organization à having a strong foundation. Once there is common language and purpose, it is critical to have trust in the executives, a solid direction or plan for accomplishing the purpose, and an understanding of how that direction impacts the daily decisions and actions of team members.
Your team is always so cheerful and upbeat around Versa, what’s your secret?
A lot of coffee! We have great people and we encourage our team to get to know others and help wherever we can. Humility is a key value for us. None of us are too important to pick up a piece of trash in the parking lot or grab some paper towels for the bathroom. We’ve found that when everyone pitches in, even in really small ways, we build community.
Speaking of Versa, what made you choose us for your offices?
We had an office in German Village, but it didn’t get the use that it deserved. We tried the “work from home” approach but found that it was hard to maintain engagement and build culture. For us, it was about the space (it is incredible) but even more than that the Versa team. We felt like we connected with Melissa and it has been awesome to get to know Matt. Versa has a great team who go out of their way to help wherever they can.
If your group was any famous team (Avengers, Power Rangers, A-Team, etc.) which would you be and why?
That’s a really interesting question – I love it! We are probably most like the team from Sandlot (showing my age here). We all have our limitations, our insecurities, and our own fears. But we believe in each other and in our purpose. We push ourselves to grow every day and push past our fears to go get the ball that went over the fence (even when that really mean dog is growling). If you haven’t watched the movie go download it. It’s a classic.
Anything else you’d like to share?
We’d love to meet the other members. We find that everybody has a crazy, unique story that each of us can learn from. Sometimes it might feel a little awkward or uncomfortable to stop in the middle of the day and strike up a meaningful conversation, but this is how we connect. Let’s get to know each other, be a little vulnerable with each other and find ways to connect and build relationships.
